The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is an outstanding scheme set up some years ago to support people who have a disability. Its aim was to provide support – but importantly, give participants agency in being able to choose the supports, and the professionals and supplied who provide that support. The NDIS provide this support across a range of ways, including providing carers, professionals, assistance with daily care, and recreation amongst many things. It has been a life changer and saver for many.
Most of the people who participate in Art for Soothing+Strengthening are able to come here because of the support they receive from the NDIS. It has transformed their lives. They rarely miss a session, and tell me that coming to this creative space, to make art, to talk, to meet with others, to see what other participants have made, to enjoy the garden and my lovely cat are essential in their lives. I know this is true. I have had a working life hearing similar things.
Art for Soothing+Strengthening is a unique service. Participants come to a fully equipped artist studio – my studio. There is a kiln, printing press, painting, mosaic and drawing to explore. I teach skills, and participants learn in the calm, and comfort of working with me, a professional artist who also has extensive experience providing art in the community, and particularly to people deeply affected by trauma, loss grief, physical and mental ill health.
Here is a sample of some of the beautiful work that has been created in the studio over the year. I hope you enjoy it and appreciate the endeavours of participants (and the artist!)

Ndis no longer pay for workshops as of Oct 2024
I think it might depend on an individual’s plan.
Art goes beyond, it integrates the source of our being in a way that has profound meaning and expression. Art is a gift that goes both ways and it should always be valued.
Indeed Mary Louise. thank you for your comment x
Wonderful Anne!
From what you’ve written here, I’m happy to see it doesn’t seem like the NDIS is cutting funding to your program?
Speak soon xoxoxo
Thanks Ingrid! I do not receive funding from the NDIS – participants do, and they purchase services. What they are able to purchase and the rates have changed or are changing, and that is what is causing all the angst. xx
