Pamela Irving+Anne Riggs Projects

About

Pamela Irving + Anne Riggs met in the 1990s when we were both working on a public art commission around the Werribee River.

We each have our own studio practice and largely work, as many artists do, on our own. Over the last few years we have enjoyed collaborating on exhibitions and for open studios. As well as finding the common threads in our work and practice, we are energised by what emerges through collaboration.

Although our individual art works are very different – we think of ourselves as ‘yin’ and ‘yang’ – we share many interests in art, making, nature, materiality and life.

Fenestration : Melbourne Fringe, 2024.

Pamela Irving Studio+Gallery, 68 Patterson Road, Bentleigh. 1 October – mid November. Open 24/7, viewed from the street.

A quirky, delightful collaborative window exhibition created by two Melbourne Artists for Melbourne Fringe. The city is currently blooming with exhibitions, performances, stories and food as part of the Fringe. Go exploring at melbournefringe.com.au.

Pamela and Anne have been practising artists for decades.  Although our work is very different – we think of ourselves as Yin+Yang, there are many similarities in our practices, and curiosity in the world around us and in making art.

We both work across a range of arts practices including painting, drawing, mosaics, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, artist books, textiles, collage, + bricolage.  Each mode of practice allowing new ideas and stories to emerge.

Melbourne Fringe and creative collaborations encourage new works and for artists and audiences to step outside the box.  However, with this show we are stepping inside.  We hope you enjoy spending time with our exhibition Fenestration, exploring what’s in the boxes and creating your own links+stories with the art and objects.

All works are for sale, price list to follow or email pamelaanneprojects@gmail.com

Melbourne Design Week 2024

Renowned Melbourne artists Pamela Irving and Anne Riggs’  Melbourne exhibition re-contextualised discarded objects + materials into new conversations. Their works raise conversations about consumption and waste, the every day objects that go into landfill that the artists have made into art.

Their use of sardine cans, an everyday object with a utilitarian design, was the foundation of the exhibition. Once the contents had been eaten, Irving+Riggs created the Omega Series – a play on the essential omega 3 vitamin and the Greek letter Omega, representing the end, the ultimate limit.

This exhibition has resonated across generations. Audiences were fascinated with the materiality of the artworks, and importantly, with the themes contained in them.
